Flavia Pennetta is delighted with a three-set victory over Maria Sharapova.

Flavia Pennetta has claimed that defeating Maria Sharapova in round three at the US Open was one of the "best victories" of her career.

The 29-year-old caused one of the biggest shocks of the tournament so far to defeat the number three seed 6-3 3-6 6-4 on the Arthur Ashe court yesterday.

"The tennis was amazing. We fought a lot," Pennetta said in an on-court interview.

"I want to thank the crowd for supporting me. This is one of the best victories of my career. I hope to get through in the next round."

The Italian will face Shuai Peng in round four.
