Andy Murray confident of triumph at US Open following strong August form

Two-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray is confident that he can go all the way at the US Open in New York.

Two-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray has insisted that he feels confident heading into the US Open this week.

The Scotsman, who won at Flushing Meadows in 2012, added the Rogers Cup to his list of achievements in August and also made the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Masters.

On Tuesday, the British number one will go head to head with controversial Australian star Nick Kyrgios in the first round of the final Grand Slam of the year.

"I believe I can win," Murray told BBC Scotland. "I've played well enough this year to give myself an opportunity at all of the majors.

"Coming in here in the past few years I didn't necessarily have great preparation. I didn't play particularly well in Cincinnati or Canada the past few years, and also in the Olympic year I hardly played any matches on the hard courts coming in.

"I definitely feel like my body is in a good place and I've obviously won more matches this year than I have in the past, so I feel good going in."

Murray was knocked out of the US Open at the quarter-final stage last year.
