Andy Murray admits US Open first round nerves

Andy Murray has admitted that he was nervous at the start of his US Open first-round win against India's Somdev Devvarman.

The Brit lost his opening service game and had to claim the first set on a tie-break before seeing off the world number 64 in straight sets.

"I was a little bit nervous at the start and making some bad decisions," said Murray.

"Once I calmed down I felt better in the middle of the first set and started hitting the ball a little bit better. But the second and third sets were good. I was hitting the ball pretty clean.

"I think nerves are a good thing. I think it shows you care and that I put a lot into getting ready for it. I hope my game's going to be there and the hard work pays off," he added.

The fourth seed faces the Netherlands' Robin Haase in the next round.
