The men's fourth round and quarter-final matches are postponed at the US Open following heavy rain.

All men's fourth round and quarter-final matches have been postponed at the US Open following heavy rain.

Organisers had originally decided to cancel the quarter-finals of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer to allow fourth round matches to be completed.

However, all men's ties have now been re-scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday).

While these matches were to be played in the day session, organisers are still hoping the evening session will go ahead, meaning the women's quarter-final ties will be played if the weather subsides.

A US Open statement said: "Unfortunately, due to the lingering rain, the day session has been cancelled.

"Every effort will be made to play tonight's evening session, which will feature the women's quarter-final matches between Serena Williams and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Samantha Stosur and Vera Zvonareva, Caroline Wozniacki and Andrea Petkovic, and Flavia Pennetta and Angelique Kerber."

The decision to cancel the men's draw has caused some disquiet amongst players and broadcasters, including Andy Murray, who tweeted: "Cancelled for the day! Don't believe it."
