Lepchenko "pretty proud" of US Open run

Varvara Lepchenko has insisted that she is "pretty proud" of her run at this year's US Open, despite being knocked out in the fourth round.

The American, who made her US Open debut in 2006, had only once made it to the fourth round at a Grand Slam before, and had never been past the third round at Flushing Meadows.

Following her straight-sets defeat to Victoria Azarenka, the 29-year-old told reporters: "I feel that, you know, everything is going pretty much my way. Obviously, I wanted to win but I'm pretty proud of my effort here. It's my first round of 16 at the US Open, so I'm pretty happy right now.

"I'm going to keep on working, keep on pushing, and keep on trying to get all these little details improved so next time I don't have those regrets after the match.

"I have struggled this tournament with my serve and played long, long point in previous matches. I think that made a big difference today. I think she was very consistent today. She didn't miss that much. That's how she won, she made less mistakes compared to me."

Lepchenko suffered first-round losses at this year's French Open and Wimbledon.
