Hewitt: 'I'll miss US Open atmosphere'

Lleyton Hewitt has admitted that he will miss the "great atmosphere" of the US Open following his final turnout at Flushing Meadows.

The 34-year-old, who will retire from tennis after the Australian Open in January, was knocked out of the tournament in the second round by fellow Aussie Bernard Tomic on Thursday.

When asked by reporters what he will miss about the US Open, Hewitt said: "Just great atmosphere like tonight. Especially the night matches are really special at the Open here. I've been fortunate to play in so many long four- and five-set matches out there on all three of the major courts."

Hewitt won the title at Flushing Meadows in 2001.
