Former world number one Roger Federer has won the Paris Masters for the first time in his career.

The Swiss claimed the trophy after achieving a straight-sets victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the French capital this afternoon.

Federer, 30, raced through the opening set to record a 6-1 success over the Frenchman.

The next set was a closer affair, with both players holding their serves throughout.

As a result, the match headed into a tie-break, with the Swiss number one running out a 7-3 winner.
