Richard Gasquet battles past Carlos Berlocq in second-round five-setter

Gasquet battles through five-setter

Richard Gasquet has sealed a place in the third round of the French Open with a disrupted battling five-setter against Carlos Berlocq.

The Frenchman eventually executed a 3-6 6-3 6-1 4-6 6-1 victory after initially starting on the back foot in the first set by going a break down early in the exchanges.

The single break point was all that was needed for Berlocq to take the lead, but his opponent responded by snatching a break of his own in the second set.

After levelling up, Gasquet went a break up at the first time of asking in the third set and while Berlocq tried to hold off his competitor while on serve, the 28-year-old came through to take a 2-1 lead.

Only one serve was lost in the fourth set and it belonged to Gasquet, as Berlocq kept himself in contention for victory by drawing 2-2 before the game was suspended until the following today.

After a lengthy break, the duo resumed play at Roland Garros this morning, and it was Gasquet who started the stronger of the two as he raced to a 3-0 lead in the fifth and deciding set.

The former Wimbledon semi-finalist continued his dominance by breaking serve once again before wrapping up the match.
