Great Britain beaten by Spain in Davis Cup despite valiant Cameron Norrie effort

Great Britain have been beaten 3-1 by Spain in their Davis Cup tie as Cameron Norrie lost in four sets to Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Heading into the final day of their World Group first-round contest trailing 2-1, Great Britain needed to win both singles matches if they were to progress.

Norrie, ranked 114 in the world, put in another brave performance but went on to lose 7-6(4) 2-6 7-6(4) 6-2 in three hours and 43 minutes in Marbella.

The 22-year-old had come back from two sets down on Friday to defeat world number 23 Roberto Bautista-Agut, leaving the overall scoreline at 1-1 heading into Saturday's doubles rubber.

Kyle Edmund was expected to have played in a deciding fifth rubber had Norrie won.

Britain now face a playoff in September which they need to win to stay in the World Group in 2019.
