Leon Smith: 'Davis Cup win is start of something'

Great Britain's Davis Cup captain Leon Smith says that his side's playoff win against Hungary is "the start of something".

Great Britain's Davis Cup captain Leon Smith has said that their promotion to Europe/Africa Zone Group I is "the start of something".

Smith saw his side defeat Hungary in their playoff 5-0 whitewash over the weekend, with one of those wins secured by Andy Murray.

The 35-year-old was also keen to point out that Britain's previous standing after their relegation two years ago was unacceptable.

"It told us where we were at," said Smith. "The stark reality is that it wasn't good enough. Even now, we're still not where we want to be in men's tennis, but it's the start of something. At least we've got some great ties to look forward to, and the players should now be desperate to be part of that team."

The draw for next year's Group I fixtures will be made on Wednesday.
