Report: Andy Murray forced to play five days before Davis Cup final

Andy Murray will be forced to play in the ATP World Tour finals just five days before the Davis Cup final, according to reports.

Andy Murray could be forced to compete in the ATP World Tour finals in November, despite previously saying that he could pull out to prepare for the Davis Cup final against Belgium.

The season-ending event takes place the week before the Davis Cup final which Great Britain reached after Murray beat Bernard Tomic on Sunday.

"The O2 would obviously be a question mark for me if we were playing on the clay," Murray told reporters after Sunday's match.

ATP executive president Chris Kermode has said that Murray would have to participate in the Tour finals though. "The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is a mandatory event on the ATP World Tour," he told reporters. "All players who qualify, unless injured, are required to compete in the event.

"Andy Murray has had a fantastic season and earned his place among the world's top eight players to compete at the season finale.

"We are aware of the comments made after the Davis Cup tie in Glasgow, however our expectations are that, if fully fit, Andy would compete in this year's tournament."

The final of the ATP Tour finals is due to be played on Sunday, November 22, five days before the start of the Davis Cup final.
