Juan Martin del Potro delighted after "important" win over Andy Murray

Juan Martin del Potro admits that his "forehand and serve" were key during his five-set victory over Andy Murray in the Davis Cup.

Juan Martin del Potro has acknowledged that his victory over Andy Murray could prove key as Argentina look to beat Great Britain in the Davis Cup semi-finals.

In a match which lasted five hours and seven minutes, Del Potro got the better of the home favourite in five pulsating sets and the former US Open champion was delighted after gaining revenge for his defeat in the Olympic final last month.

The 27-year-old told BBC Sport: "It was amazing for us. Thank you for the respect for both players. I really enjoyed the match. The crowd was great and the Argentinian fans great as well.

"I won but I still remember Olympic final. This is very important to me and my team and we are looking to reach another final in the Davis Cup. Against Andy you never know when the match will finish. He is a dangerous player, a fighter and great champion. In end I played good forehands and good serves and that was key.

"I am so happy to be playing tennis again after three surgeries. This kind of moment was what I was missing at home and I always play good in Great Britain and here I played great so it is a good place for my tennis."

Del Potro is scheduled to play the fifth and final rubber against Kyle Edmund - should the last-four tie go that far - on Sunday.
