Five-time champ Novak Djokovic earns spot in third round of Australian Open

Djokovic earns spot in third round

Novak Djokovic has claimed a spot in the third round of the Australian Open with a 6-1 6-2 7-6(3) victory over Quentin Halys.

The five-time champion showed his intent by creating five break points in Halys's first service game, but his opponent managed to hold off the world number one.

Djokovic went a break up at the next time of asking and it was plain sailing from there as he eased to a one-set lead before immediately breaking serve at the start of the second.

Halys struggled to impose his game on the court as Djokovic was comfortable on serve and broke again to take a 5-2 lead.

After taking just under an hour to claim a two-set lead, Djokovic suffered a wobble when he lost his opening service game in the third, but he instantly broke back.

The top seed was forced into a tie-break, but he eased through it 7-3 to continue his defence of the title.
