Heather Watson desperate to improve record at Australian Open

British number one Heather Watson admits that she is eager to start making an impact on the latter stages of Grand Slams ahead of the US Open.

Heather Watson has admitted that she is desperate to make an impact at the Australian Open following a promising start to the year.

The British number one prepared for the first Grand Slam of the year in perfect fashion as she lifted the Hobart International title on the weekend, but the 22-year-old is keen to improve her record at the four biggest tournaments.

"I haven't got the results that I have wanted in the Grand Slam main draws," Watson, who is now ranked a career-high 38 in the world, told BBC Sport.

"I've made a couple of third rounds, but I definitely want a lot more than that. If it doesn't come this week I'm not going to panic. I think it all will come in the right time, but I definitely want to start making inroads in the slams."

Watson will take on Tsvetana Pironkova in the first round in Melbourne on Tuesday.
