Wales full-back Leigh Halfpenny is a clear winner in the Six Nations' player of the tournament award.

Wales full-back Leigh Halfpenny has been crowned the best player at this year's Six Nations.

Halfpenny scored 74 points over five matches in the competition as Wales successfully defended the crown by thrashing England in a crucial final game in Cardiff.

He gained 40% of the public vote, putting him significantly ahead of Italy flanker Alessandro Zanni and Scotland full-back Stuart Hogg, who came second and third respectively.

"I can't thank the people who voted for me enough," said Halfpenny, 24.

"It's a real honour and privilege, and I am overwhelmed to be in among the players shortlisted.

"It's the icing on the cake of an exceptional year for Wales, and it is a privilege to be part of such an exceptional group of people."

Around 80,000 people voted on a 15-man shortlist for the award.
