South African prop Tendai Mtawarira says that a procedure to correct an irregular heart rhythm has gone well.

Tendai Mtawarira has said that he is feeling well after surgery to correct an irregular heart rhythm.

The South African prop was forced to pull out of the Autumn Internationals after experiencing mild heart palpitations.

In a statement following the operation, the 27-year old said: "I am well, so there is really no need to worry. The procedure went well.

"This is something that has happened to me before and that can be treated. Also, it's not career-threatening.

"Sometimes I get quite excited before a game and that is probably what triggered it."

Mtawarira underwent the procedure in Cape Town on Wednesday, and was released from hospital yesterday.
