Scotland and Ospreys winger Nikki Walker faces further tests on his knee before a return date can be determined.
The 29-year-old damaged medial ligaments in his knee while on international duty for Scotland on Saturday, August 20 and was subsequently ruled out of his country’s World Cup squad.
Walker has now returned to the Ospreys and is under the care of Head Physiotherapist Chris Towers, who will carry out tests to determine the full extent of the player’s injury.
"It is a significant knee injury resulting in a lengthy lay-off that will require surgery. We know that much already," Towers said.
"We haven't set any timescales yet, and are seeking further opinions regarding prognosis before confirming when surgery will take place. We are continuing to liaise with the Scottish Rugby Union, and will update accordingly when we are in a position to do so."
The Ospreys kick-off their PRO12 season campaign against Leinster on this Friday.
