Carter regains Test points record

New Zealand fly-half Dan Carter has regained the world record for most points scored in Tests.

Carter started Saturday's Tri-Nations match with South Africa two points behind Jonny Wilkinson's tally of 1,195 points.

The 29-year-old converted a penalty from 30 metres just three minutes into the game to give him the record.

Although he then missed a number of penalties and the chance to extend his lead over Wilkinson even further, New Zealand went on to win through 40-7 in Wellington.

Carter had previously broken Wilkinson's record of 1,178 points in November 2010, while the England fly-half had held the current record since the Test match with France in February.
