Michael Cheika: 'We must be ready for England response'

Australia head coach Michael Cheika urges his players to be prepared for an England backlash on Saturday.

Australia head coach Michael Cheika has urged his side to be prepared for a backlash from England when the two sides meet at Twickenham on Saturday.

Hosts England head into the Pool A game desperate for a victory as they look to recover from the 28-25 loss to Wales which left their World Cup hopes hanging by a thread.

The Wallabies have their sights set on finishing top of the group, but Cheika believes that it would be unwise to not expect a response from Stuart Lancaster's side.

"When the thunder starts at Twickenham you have got to be ready for it," he told reporters. "They have been very successful at that ground so we have to be ready to be ourselves and play the best we possibly can and let the cards fall where they do.

"Every team has the ability to bounce back. That's the joy of rugby. You lose one week and come back out and play the next. We're more than aware of that because we've been in the same position, maybe not in a World Cup, but I'm sure they'll believe strongly that they can beat us. I suppose that's all that counts."

Only Ireland have scored more points than Australia in their opening two games of the tournament.
