Australia confirm Wycliff Palu, Will Skelton will miss rest of Rugby World Cup

Australia number eight Wycliff Palu and lock Will Skelton are ruled out of the rest of the Rugby World Cup with injuries.

Australia head coach Michael Cheika has confirmed that number eight Wycliff Palu and lock Will Skelton will miss the rest of the Rugby World Cup due to injuries.

The blow comes just four days before the Wallabies take on home nation England at Twickenham in their Pool A clash.

On Sunday, Skelton suffered a problem with his arm during Australia's 65-3 victory over Uruguay, while Palu had picked up a hamstring injury in the match.

Cheika, who has been head coach of the Wallabies since last year, confirmed this morning that James Hanson and Sam Carter have been called in as replacements.

This weekend's match is a crucial one for England as they find themselves third in Pool A, three points off the pace following last Saturday's 28-25 defeat to Wales.

The Wallabies have a 100% record in the tournament so far having won both pool fixtures, which has placed them at the top of the standings.
