Australia oust France in Melbourne low scorer to win series

Australia beat France to win series

Two penalties were enough for Australia to squeeze past France in Melbourne this evening and seal victory in the three-Test series.

The game began scrappily with plenty of errors and penalties before Australia thought that they had broken the deadlock.

Midway through the opening half Ben McCalman went over for the first score, but it was chalked off because of off-the-ball contact.

Nic White missed a pair of kicks at the start of the second half for the home side before they finally got on the scoreboard through Bernard Foley's penalty.

White doubled the lead with 15 minutes on the clock and that would be enough for the Wallabies to go 2-0 up in the series.

Both sides kicked poorly, with Australia converting two of their five attempts and France missing on both of theirs.

It is a completely different scoreline from last week's first Test, which finished 50-23 in the Aussies' favour.

The third Test takes place in Sydney next Saturday.
