Wigan Warriors thrashed by Catalans Dragons

Wigan Warriors' five-game winning run in Super League is brought to an end with a 58-16 thrashing by Catalans Dragons.

Wigan Warriors have seen their five-game winning run in Super League ended with an emphatic 58-16 defeat away to Catalans Dragons.

The visitors began strongly as Matty Smith converted Josh Charnley's try, but their joy was short-lived as the Dragons took firm control of the match with six tries before the break.

Fouad Yaha, Tony Gigot and Zeb Taia all touched down twice each for the hosts, while Scott Dureau added the extras to five of those scores to give Catalans a healthy advantage.

Dan Sarginson went over for Wigan before the half-time whistle, though by that time the damage had been done.

Joe Burgess's converted try at the start of the second period gave the Warriors a glimmer of hope, only for another Dragons blitz to kill the game off once and for all.

Michael Oldfield and Morgan Escare both got their names on the scoreboard either side of Taia's hat-trick try, while an additional six points from the boot of Dureau gave the Dragons a big advantage.

The hosts then made sure of the victory with 10 minutes remaining as Dureau converted Gigot's score.
