Sam Powell out of World Club Challenge

Wigan Warriors half-back Sam Powell is ruled out of Saturday's World Club Challenge clash against Sydney Roosters after picking up an ankle injury in training.

Wigan Warriors will be without Sam Powell in Saturday's World Club Challenge clash against Sydney Roosters.

The 21-year-old, who can operate either as a half-back or a hooker, picked up an ankle injury in training.

Wigan coach Shaun Wane told reporters: "It is a big blow for Sam, who has worked really hard in pre-season, but, with his character, I'm sure he will bounce back stronger."

Three-time champions Wigan have not won the World Club Challenge since 1994.
