Monaghan named Warrington captain

Warrington Wolves have named Joel Monaghan as club captain for the new Super League season.

The 32-year-old Australian takes over from older brother Michael Monaghan and Ben Westwood, who shared the captaincy during the last campaign.

Meanwhile, England forward Chris Hill has been appointed vice-captain.

"Joel's leadership qualities and knowledge of the game made him the stand-out candidate," coach Tony Smith told the club's official website.

"Over the years he's developed as a leader and has become very influential within the group. He's highly respected by all the players and staff."

Warrington start their Super League campaign on February 7 when they host Salford Red Devils.
