Huddersfield Giants keep clean sheet in Super League win over Castleford

Huddersfield take easy Super League win

Huddersfield Giants beat Castleford Tigers 22-0 in the Super League at the John Smith's Stadium this evening.

Both teams had won just one out of their first four Super League matches, and it proved to be a cautious affair throughout the match.

After a drab start to the match, it took until the 23rd minute for either team to come close to scoring when Joe Wardle's effort was ruled out by the video referee.

With the match looking to go to a rare Super League score-less half time, Jamie Ellis finished off a good Huddersfield move to try under the posts, and Danny Brough added the extra two points to give Huddersfield a 6-0 half-time lead.

Ukuma Ta'ai added another try for Huddersfield just after the break, breaching the Castleford defence to cross the line.

Aaron Murphy scored Huddersfield's third try with 17 minutes remaining, crossing in the corner after Brough's pass.

This time, Brough failed with the conversion, but he redeemed himself two minutes later from a penalty. James Clare impeded Brough, who kicked the ball through the posts.

Castleford tried to pull some points back in the closing stages, but were let down by a number of knock-ons to halt their attacks.

Jermaine McGillvary added a fourth try just before full time when he crossed over on the left wing.

Huddersfield Giants move up to fifth in the Super League with the victory.
