Steve Menzies announces retirement

Catalans Dragons player Steve Menzies announces that he will retire at the end of the season.

Catalans Dragons second-rower Steve Menzies has revealed his intention to retire from rugby league at the end of the current season.

The 39-year-old, who is the oldest Super League player ever, admitted that it was a tough decision but does not want to play on in case he would no longer be able to meet the required standard.

"It was a hard decision to make," Sky Sports News quotes Menzies as saying. "Playing rugby league, that's all I have ever done.

"I'm still enjoying playing and I feel good mentally and physically, but it was the right time to finish. My biggest fear was to play one season too long and I'm happy with my decision."

Menzies has been at the Dragons since 2011 and has scored 116 points for them.
