Liam Finn drop goal helps Castleford Tigers survive Warrington Wolves fightback

Castleford survive a spirited Warrington fightback to claim a gutsy 17-16 win in their Super League clash at The Jungle, thanks to Liam Finn's late drop goal.

Castleford Tigers survived a spirited Warrington Wolves fightback to claim a gutsy 17-16 win in their Super League clash at The Jungle this evening.

The visitors thought that they had taken the lead when Ben Harrison crossed over the line 11 minutes in, but the referee deemed him to have been held up.

Five minutes later Castleford went ahead, Justin Carney going over in the corner after passes from Luke Gale and Michael Shenton.

The latter, who scored four last week, then weighed in with another of his own on the half-hour mark, though the opposition countered three minutes later when Richie Myler collected a pass from Ashton Sims and crashed over.

Following the restart, Carney scored his second try of the game to make the scores 16-6, but Warrington remained hot on their heels when Myler raced the length of the field to score in the 69th minute.

The visitors then mounted a determined fightback when Kevin Penny went over in the corner and Chris Sandow converted to bring the scores level.

Castleford, however, would snatch the win right at the death as Liam Finn's 78th-minute drop goal won the game for his side.
