President Barack Obama disrupts Swansea City's pre-season training

Swansea City right-back Angel Rangel reveals that US president Barack Obama caused the players to be late for pre-season training in Washington.

US president Barack Obama caused Swansea City's players to be late for pre-season training in Washington DC, right-back Angel Rangel has claimed.

The Premier League outfit are in the United States capital for Sunday's friendly against Richmond Kickers.

Rangel has revealed that the players ran late for training because various roads were closed for Obama's motorcade.

"I'm sure managers have heard some great excuses over the years," Rangel told the club's official website. "I don't think anyone has ever blamed American president Barack Obama. Well we did, and it was genuine.

"With our hotel a short distance from the White House, they closed all the roads in the vicinity for an hour because Obama was due to return from official business.

"At first we thought they had closed the roads off because chairman Huw Jenkins had arrived - but it was only the American president!"

Swansea's opening pre-season game earlier this week ended in a 4-0 win over Charlotte Independence.
