Parma striker Emanuele Calaio sanctioned for match-fixing

Parma striker Emanuele Calaio is banned for two years and fined for match-fixing while the Gialloblu have been docked five points for the 2018-19 Serie A season.

Parma striker Emanuele Calaio has been banned for two years for match-fixing.

The 36-year-old has also been fined €20,000 (£17,800), while Parma have been deducted five points for the 2018-19 Serie A season.

Italy's National Federal Court (TFN) imposed the sanctions after Calaio sent "suspicious messages" to two of his former teammates before Spezia played Parma in Serie B on May 18.

In the Italian Football Federation's case document, which names both Filippo De Col and Claudio Terzi, it accuses Calaio of "trying to get less competition commitment from the players".

Parma won the game 2-0 to seal second place in Serie B last season and promotion back to the top flight as rivals Frosinone could only manage a 2-2 draw against Foggia.

The Gialloblu were relegated to Serie D after being declared bankrupt in 2015, but will return to Serie A after three successive promotions.
