Former Manchester United midfielder Alan Smith has reportedly left his wife just four months after the couple got married in Cheshire.

Smith and professional dancer Kristina Macmillan exchanged vows at Peckforton Castle in a ceremony that was photographed for magazine Wedding Ideas.

However, according to The Mirror, the couple are already heading for divorce, and Macmillan, who has danced on The X Factor, is said to be "devastated".

The report adds that Smith's wife believes that another woman is involved in the split.

A representative for the couple told the newspaper: "Mr and Mrs Smith are keen to avoid speculation about these private and personal issues because of the potential to cause upset and distress. They will be making no further comment."

Smith, who spent three years at United, now plays for Notts County.
