Raheem Sterling assault case dismissed

The assault case against Raheem Sterling has been dismissed after two witnesses failed to attend court.

Sterling was due to stand trial after being accused of assaulting a 27-year-old woman in Toxteth in November last year.

He had pleaded not guilty but missed three court appearances in relation to the case and was warned that his trial would go ahead regardless of whether he attended court on Monday.

Sterling made his way to court but did not leave his car as he was informed by phone that he could leave after the case was dismissed by district judge Richard Clancy.

The prosecution offered no evidence against the Liverpool winger, who has been awarded defence costs.
