A Merseyside MP has told Liverpool and Everton that they should share their Premier League TV rights windfall with their staff by paying a "living wage".
Sky and BT together forked out a record £5.14bn to screen English top-flight matches until 2019.
However, Birkenhead MP Frank Field has written to the Premier League urging the governing body to include a living wage clause that forces big clubs to pay reasonable salaries to support staff.
Field wrote: "While the Premier League isn't a charity, its clubs do employ human beings who need to earn a living.
"Do you not think that, given clubs' enormous spending power, which has been boosted by this mega cash injection, you could now write to each club asking them to share this success with their ground staff, by writing a living wage clause into all contracts?"
A recent study by Deloitte revealed that all 20 Premier League clubs feature among the top 40 richest in world football.
