Ozil funds life-saving surgery for 11 kids

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has continued his charity work by funding life-saving operations for 11 children in Brazil.

Last year after the midfielder won the World Cup with Germany, he paid for 23 ill youngsters in Brazil to have surgery.

Now, according to the German FA, the 26-year-old has arranged for 11 more children to have operations at a hospital in Coroata, Maranhao.

"Even one year after we won the World Cup, I want to continue to leave a positive mark in Brazil by financing eleven more children's operations," Ozil told the DFB website. "For me it's very important that I carry on providing help for the children of Brazil."

The former Real Madrid player, who carries out charity work through the Mesut Ozil Foundation, was handed a Laureus award for his efforts last year.
