Woods off the pace at Merion

Tiger Woods will begin his second round at the US Open on three-over-par after a poor first 18 holes at Merion.

The world number one returned on Friday on two-over through 10 holes, which left him six shots behind Phil Mickelson.

A bogey at the 12th hole was cancelled out by a birdie at the 13th, before three pars in a row kept him on two-over with two holes to play.

However, a poor tee-shot at 17th saw him make bogey, but an aggressive approach shot on 18 gave him a birdie opportunity.

His putt lacked the speed to reach the hole to leave Woods having to settle for par and a score of 73.
