Phil Mickelson happy with form ahead of US Open

Phil Mickelson believes that he is in a good position to win the US Open this week after six runner-up finishes at the event during his career.

Phil Mickelson has claimed that he is in good shape to finally end his poor run of luck at the US Open ahead of his trip to Chambers Bay.

The 44-year-old, who finished in a tie for third in the St. Jude Classic at the weekend, has been a runner-up at the US Open a record six times, and he is confident that he will challenge once again as he looks to become just the sixth player to win the career Grand Slam.

"I'm very pleased with how I progressed as the tournament went on," he told Sky Sports News. "I still made mistakes and there are still areas where I've got to improve, but I saw a lot of progress as the week went on.

"I'm feeling a lot better about heading in to the US Open this week than I did after the last."

Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods are the only players to have won all four majors.
