Rory McIlroy: 'Winning at Oakmont would be biggest achievement'

Rory McIlroy says that winning this week's US Open would represent his "biggest accomplishment" in the sport.

Rory McIlroy has said that he would be "very proud" if he could win this week's US Open at Oakmont.

The course in Pennsylvania has been described as one of the toughest in the sport, and whoever is sitting at the top of the leaderboard on Sunday night is expected to have carded an over-par score.

McIlroy already has three Major titles to his name but the Northern Irishman has acknowledged that emerging victorious at Oakmont would represent the biggest achievement of his career.

The 27-year-old told reporters: "I'd be very proud if I won on a golf course like this. The Majors that I have won have been soft and under-par and more suits my style of game.

"But to be able to win on a course like this with the conditions the way they are, it would be maybe my biggest accomplishment in the game. It definitely would make me feel like a more complete player."

The last time the US Open was staged at Oakmont came in 2007 when Angel Cabrera won the tournament with a score of five-over-par.
