Luke Donald positive ahead of US Open

Luke Donald: 'I want to win major championship'

Luke Donald has said that he is determined to win his first major championship ahead of the US Open.

No Englishman has won a Major since Nick Faldo's 1996 Masters victory, even though Northern Ireland has produced three Major champions in the 17 years since Faldo's success in the shape of Graeme McDowell, Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke.

However, Donald, who held the the number-one ranking as recently as last year, is confident of his chances at Merion.

"When I am playing well I am going to be in contention no matter what course it is," he told The Metro.

"It just takes one good week. My results have not been as consistent as I would like. The last couple of years I got so much out of my game and now I feel I am due for that."

Donald is due to tee off at 5:52pm local time tomorrow.
