Lee Westwood has won a point in his singles match against Matt Kuchar to edge Europe closer to what would be a miraculous Ryder Cup victory at Medinah.
Westwood went ahead at the fourth hole when Kuchar missed a putt for par, but the American was the beneficiary of a missed-par putt from Westwood at the sixth.
Kuchar missed another point at the ninth to allow Europe to take the lead once again, but a birdie at the next hole got him back on track.
The Englishman found his form with his steady approach play, while Kuchar was wayward and inaccurate.
Pars at 12, 13 and 15 saw Westwood take a three-up lead and a half at 16 was enough to win the contest.
