McIlroy late on final day of Ryder Cup

Rory McIlroy had to be given a police escort in order to make it to Medinah Country Club in time for his Ryder Cup singles match against Keegan Bradley.

According BBC Sport, Gerry McIlroy, his father, said that there had been confusion over the tee times because of TV schedules that had been reported in different time zones.

The Northern Irishman also ran into traffic along the way to the course, but made it just in time, eating a breakfast bar and giving a "relieved-looking" Jose Maria Olazabal a hug.

"We did not have that in mind," said Olazabal. "All of a sudden we realised Rory was not here and started to look for him.

"Finally we got hold of him and he came in with a police escort with 10 or 11 minutes to go."

He teed off on time in the day's third match.
