Ryder Cup 2025: USA captain Keegan Bradley reveals whether he has picked himself for Bethpage Black

'It has broken my heart': Bradley reveals US Ryder Cup captain's picks, whether he has picked himself

Keegan Bradley has revealed that he will not become a playing captain for USA at the 2025 Ryder Cup.

Since being the surprise pick to skipper the US team for the upcoming event at Bethpage Black, speculation has persisted that Bradley could select himself after an outstanding run of form in 2025.

As well as winning the Travelers Championship, Bradley has another three top-10 finishes in his last nine starts and now sits in seventh place in the World Golf Rankings.

However, rather than become the first playing captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963, Bradley left himself out of the aptly-named six captains picks at a press conference on Wednesday.

Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns have instead been selected by the 39-year-old.

Bradley reacts to leaving himself out of Ryder Cup

Speaking at the media briefing, Bradley said that he had decided 'a while ago" that he would be leaving himself out of the 12-player team.

Nevertheless, he admitted that the selection process had 'broken his heart' having also missed out on selection for the last event when deemed one of the favourites to be picked.

He said: "I grew up wanting to play Ryder Cups and wanting to fight alongside these guys. It broke my heart not to play, it really did. I was chosen to do a job and be a captain for this team and my ultimate goal was to be the best captain I could be. This is how I felt I could do this.

"If it got to the point where it felt the team was better with me on it I was going to do that. I know 100% for certain this was the right choice.

"These six guys played so incredibly coming down the stretch here and made my job so much easier."

When asked to reveal more about his decision, Bradley added: "The decision was made a while ago that I wasn't playing. The last 48 hours we had the team set, we weren't scrambling at all.

"This was a tough decision. There was a point this year where I was playing. All these guys stepped up in a major way and played their way onto this team. It's something I'm proud of and really wanted.

"It was an extremely difficult decision but one I'm really happy with, I'm happy with these six players. I'm glad it's over."

Scottie Scheffler, JJ Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English and Bryson DeChambeau had already earned their places in the team through their performances during the selection process.

European captain Luke Donald will reveal his own captain picks on September 1.
