Ian Poulter converts a tricky birdie putt on the ninth to ensure that he and Justin Rose enter the back nine all square with Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson.

Ian Poulter sunk a tricky downhill putt on the ninth to claw the first foursome on day two of the Ryder Cup back to all square.

The match began with some irregular scenes on the first tee as Poulter and Watson whipped the crowd up into a frenzy so that chants were being shouted as both men teed off.

Poulter sent his drive into a fairway bunker but Rose delivered an approach from the sand that went close and Poulter tucked in the birdie for an early 1 up lead.

The second was then halved with bogeys before America birdied three to level the match.

The home pair found another birdie on the fifth to complete the turnaround before holes six, seven and eight were halved.

Watson was wayward off the tee on nine and Poulter was present with a six-footer to level the scores at the turn and the Englishman made it.
