Rory McIlroy hints at US PGA return

World number one golfer Rory McIlroy has suggested that he will make his return from an ankle ligament injury at next week's US PGA Championship, where he is defending champion.

McIlroy first revealed the injury on his Instagram earlier this summer, and the Northern Irishman's page on the social media site has been the place to find updates on his condition.

Earlier this week he posted a picture of how much his ankle had reduced in swelling and also a video of him swinging a driver with seemingly little discomfort.

McIlroy was unable to defend his title at this week's WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, but this afternoon posted a picture on an aeroplane with emojis suggesting that he was flying to the States from Portugal and was fit to compete at Whistling Straits next week.
