Alpine assigns Gasly's lighter chassis to Ocon for Spain GP

Alpine has decided to place Esteban Ocon in the seat of Pierre Gasly's lighter chassis for this weekend's race in Barcelona.

As Ocon prepares to part ways with the embattled Renault factory team at year's end, any previous semblance of team harmony seems to have dissipated during the recent races in Monaco and Canada.

In Montreal, Ocon disclosed that he has been at a disadvantage with extra chassis weight "for a while."

"It's been a few races now since my car has been much heavier than Pierre's," he revealed.

Speaking in Barcelona on Thursday, Gasly made it clear he has "no relationship" with his teammate. However, Ocon stated that his primary focus is now on "equal treatment."

"Bruno (Famin) also promised us that," he added.

Consequently, Alpine has allocated Gasly's lighter chassis to the 27-year-old Ocon for the Spanish Grand Prix.

"In the interests of equal treatment, we have agreed on a rotation principle," Ocon affirmed. "So I will be driving Pierre's car this weekend."

He mentioned that he will continue to drive this car for the upcoming Spain-Austria-Silverstone triple header.

When questioned about his future in F1, particularly in 2025 amid strong rumors of a move to Haas alongside Oliver Bearman, Ocon seemed unconcerned.

"The most important thing is an environment where you feel supported, where you feel good, and where everyone is working towards the same goal," he stated.
