Mark Webber: 'Lift penalty is comical'

Mark Webber says that the 10-grid penalty handed to him in the wake of the Singapore Grand Prix is "comical".

Red Bull racer Mark Webber has branded his 10-place grid penalty as "comical" after he hitched a lift to the pits on Fernando Alonso's car.

Both drivers were given reprimands for the incident, and the Australian will now serve his punishment at the Korean Grand Prix after retiring on the final lap of the Singapore Grand Prix at the weekend.

Webber, who has picked up three reprimands this season, has expressed his outrage on Twitter at the decision.

"For @alo_oficial and me to receive reprimands for our actions after the race it is comical to say the least. Great moment, and fans loved it," Webber said on the social media site.

"And while I'm at it, contrary to reports ,there was no interaction at all with any track officials after we put the fire out."

Webber then posted a picture collation of previous similar incidents before highlighting a photo that appeared to show Derek Warwick, one of the Singapore race stewards who meted out the controversial penalty, riding on the side of a Ferrari.

"Looks like even one of the Singapore stewards has done it," added Webber.

Webber's previous two reprimands were for a collision with Nico Rosberg in Bahrain and for not slowing down sufficiently for yellow caution flags in Canada.
