Red Bull's Mark Webber pleased with pole position

Red Bull driver Mark Webber is overjoyed at finishing the qualifying session for the Japanese Grand Prix in pole position.

Red Bull driver Mark Webber has said that he is pleased with his performance in qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix.

The Australian, who will leave Formula 1 at the end of the season, finished ahead of his teammate Sebastian Vettel in pole position on Saturday.

"It's a great track, we really enjoy driving here," BBC Sport quotes him as saying. "Sebastian had a problem so it's a bit of a hollow pole but you have to grab the opportunities when you can.

"We did the laps when they counted, and it's a very nice farewell for me on my final time here at Suzuka and on a phenomenal circuit.

"It was a real highlight for me. I think in general we've got a good car for the race."

Webber is currently fifth in the drivers' rankings.
