Sir Richard Branson: 'Formula E will become more popular than Formula 1'

Sir Richard Branson suggests that Formula E will be bigger than Formula 1 in the coming years.

Sir Richard Branson has suggested that Formula E will take over Formula 1 as the most popular form of motor racing.

The 64-year-old entrepreneur is backing the Virgin Racing team in Formula E, having had a short involvement with F1 back in 2010.

He told BBC Sport: "I think in four or five years you will find Formula E taking over from F1 in terms of number of people.

"As time goes on, the clean energy type of business will power ahead of other businesses."

Battersea Park will play host to the final rounds of the inaugural Formula E season.
