Button handed three-place grid penalty

Jenson Button has been handed a three-place grid penalty for the United States Grand Prix.

The 33-year British driver was punished after overtaking under red flags during the opening practice session at the Circuit of The Americas.

Practice one had been red-flagged after the trackside medical helicopter developed a fault.

A team of stewards, including Nigel Mansell, later decided that McLaren star Button had been guilty of an offence after studying video evidence.

Button had been second-fastest in P1, behind Ferrari's Fernando Alonso.
