Lewis Hamilton is stripped of his pole position and been demoted to the back of grid for the Spanish Grand Prix.

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton has been stripped of his pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix after it was found that his car was under-weight during qualifying.

Hamilton will instead start from the back of the grid after his team ordered him to stop his car on the track during the lap after his fastest qualifying time.

Just 1.3 litres of fuel were discovered in the car, an insufficient amount to have completed the lap and then provided the mandatory one-litre fuel sample.

McLaren argued that a fuel-rig fault was to blame, and that the lack of fuel did not have an impact on the qualifying times.

The race stewards, however, decided to punish McLaren by excluding them from the results of qualifying.
