McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh blasts Lewis Hamilton's exit

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh believes that Lewis Hamilton has made a "mistake" in moving to Mercedes.

It was confirmed today that the 27-year-old had signed a three-year deal with Mercedes after failing to agree a new contract with McLaren.

"For anyone leaving McLaren, and he wants to win, I think that's a mistake because I have faith and belief in this team," BBC Sport quotes Whitmarsh as saying. "Whether you measure it over the last four races, four years or 40 years, we're a fantastic team."

While Hamilton will replace Michael Schumacher at Mercedes next season, Sergio Perez will take Hamilton's spot at the British-based team.
