Fernando Alonso: McLaren 'like a GP2 car'

McLaren driver Fernando Alonso is heard over team radios claiming that his car had an engine 'like a GP2 car'.

Former F1 world champion Fernando Alonso was disappointed in McLaren's performance in the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka.

The Spaniard finished 11th and was heard over team radio complaining about the team's poor engine, claiming that it was similar to being in a GP2 race.

The two-time champion said: "I am being passed down the straights like a GP2. This is embarrasing, very embarrasing."

However, the 34-year-old said after the race that the team will need to learn lessons from the race and will look to improve in the future.

Alonso added: "It is frustrating when you see how they overtake you on the straights then you arrive to the corners and you see them braking late, making mistakes here and there and you are perfect in the corner, in your recovering time and then on the straights again they overtake you.

"It is frustrating but it is the way it is, hopefully we can learn lesons from these types of races."

Lewis Hamilton extended his championship lead in the race by beating teammate Nico Rosberg into first place.
